View Full Version : GRIZZLY GARY 1ST 20" WALLEYE IN THE BOAT CONTEST

Grizzly Gary
04-27-2007, 08:52 PM
Ok the Walleye Season opens next Saturday May 5th. I will be out that day as well as the next. I tend to fish Friday, Saturday & Sunday. But I will be on the water the Thursday- Sunday of the KAWA DAV Tournament. I tend to launch the boat at 7 am and fish till 4pm but that is not a given. Sometimes I get out earlier sometimes I fish later.

So here is the contest. You must post the date & time that I land my first 20 inch or over Walleye this year. The winner will recieve a $50 gift certificate at the restaurant of their choice. I will record the time of my landing that 20 or over incher and the closest one wins. Minutes may mean the difference here.

I fish Kinzua a lot but we all know that 20 inchers do not come everyday there. I also spend time on Chautauqua and Erie. So who knows?

All entries must be posted by 5 pm of Saturday May 5TH as that is the opener and I am sure I will not be home before then.

This is meant to be a fun contest so pick a time and day & post!

Thanks & Good Luck!

I say May 6th. You will be frustrated and dreaming of Grey Goose as a walleye hooks its self in a sacrifice for all fishing humanity. It will weigh a scary two pounds and look like it needs steroids !

Alot of you guys seem to have alot of confidence in our Gary Werts fishing ability.
I see alot of those date and times are in the really early part of the season.

his 1st best chance will be prefishing for the July KAWA event

July 7th 11:21 AM while prefishing up on Chautauqua.

Although more than likely it'll happen when he goes up on Erie/on someone elses boat, gear and someone else hooks the fish and hands Gary the rod.
Gary, you should've did this as the first 20 incher in your boat so you could say you got one or two in the boat. (THAT IS, THE ONES THAT MIKE WILL CATCH)

good luck and you know I'm kidding you Gary

Mighty Mike

gary always seems to catch the big one the day before the tournament. then i have to carry him thru the tournament. he he he so i say may 18 at 10:30 am i probably should go with gilligans idea and pick a day i think he will be on erie. he fishes that erie tournament in august. hmmm i guess i will stick to my pick.

Sometime this summer Gary will be in my boat on Erie. If he hasn't landed a qualifying fish by then I will let everyone know the date. I will sell to the highest bidder the correct time of the catch. Any 20"+ walleye prior to your 'winning' time will be knocked off with the net by yours truely!!!

So who wants to start the bidding??

Pauleye58
04-30-2007, 05:59 PM
Well, considering the variability of the water level divided by the length of Gary's boat, multiplied by the number of leeches in the baitwell, minus the number of minutes of sleeplessness Friday night, I'd say the first 20 will be caught at 9:17 a.m. on May 5.

Grizzly Gary
05-01-2007, 01:47 PM
Place your date & time ladies and gents as time is running out! You have till 5 pm on May 5th to post.

Interesting formula Pauleye58!

All bets are in and none allowed after this!

No 20 inchers today. The best I could do was a 16 incher.

Had a great day on the Zoo as there are fillets in the frige for tomorrows dinner.

Hope to get out after Church tomorrow for a few hours.

Mighty Mike was saying all day today that he wishes he would have picked a date in October or an Erie date. Ye of little faith!

Though he did kick my butt today on the Zoo.

Looks like the last 3 who have a chance a Glen Boser, Swanny & Hoff.

I will be hitting it hard the next few weeks up to the June 16 & 17 tournament on Kinzua. Then I will be with Gilligan www.castawaycharters.net with ratherbhuntin & treerat on June 21st. Then we will begin working Chautauqua for the KAWA Tournamnent in July. www.kinzua-walleye.com

I would figure it would be over when fishing with Gilligan, Ratherbhuntin & treerat unless they won't let me fish.

i just looked at the calendar. if grizzly catches the big one on the 17th at cabelas it would be a tie and then come down to times. if he catches that fish before the 17th glenn boser wins. if it is after hoff wins. the pressure is on grizzly to come up with that 20 incher next weekend.

Grizzly Gary
06-09-2007, 08:00 PM

nope after treerat and I each got 2 we decided next fish was garys but then the wind really started kicking up and we decided it was best to head back in. Fishing was quite tuff today. other than our 4 eyes we had 1 white perch.

All right here, I smell something really really fishy. You didn't really make Gary drive the boat did you guys. I thought you were just joking. lol
Come on ratherbhuntin, the stinky, rotten trout comment the other night at ribs and bones was just me funning around. You didn't have to fall into the temptations of Gary holding out on me on the gift certificate.

I still have until July 7th to collect on this bet, that's 2 weeks.
Come on Gary, you can go fishing with me, I'll find you a twenty incher. Even if I have to pull the one I have in the freezer out and hook it onto your line and let you put it in the boat.

I was wondering about that wind, It was bad in Warren let alone on Erie.

Looks like Swanny is the last man standing! I am stunned myself that I have not landed a single 20 incher yet this year on Kinzua. I am having a brutal year but that's why they call it fishing and not catching!

I have been on Erie a couple of times but each time I had guests and we did not have a hot hot bite so I always defer to our guests and let them do the fishing.

The year I am having I am beginning to wonder if I will land a 20 incher!  :?:   :(

That's a big you're welcome to you Swanny. I would've had this thing won because noone remembered that you had the date that you did until I mentioned it at Ribs and Bones a few weeks ago.

Still think I got hosed here, even caught Gary filleting some nice fish (20+) last week and he had innocents around that he sad had caught them.
This contest has to the reason Gary never trolled cranks on the zoo this year. (didn't want HOFF to win a free meal ticket)

This may just cut into his bait fun that he steals out of the wifes tip money. LOL

Grizzly Gary
07-14-2007, 06:49 PM
Hoff,

Pay no attention to that Brat kid! I did not pick up a rod that day except in helping Gilligan www.castawaycharters.net putting lines out.

As I told you today, it is my MISSION to put a 20 incher in the boat tomorrow on Chautauqua! You picked July 7th, Swanny picked July 21st. If I land a 20 incher tomorrow this thing will come down to minutes!! I LOVE IT!

If I catch one and one only Walleye I hope it is a 20 incher!

Hoff, you had better hope I get it early!!!

Gary ,the jig bite has not treated you well this year. What's it going to take for you quit holding your rod in your hand and troll cranks?

treerat
07-19-2007, 08:24 AM
Gary leave the jigs home some day and take the crank baits . it is time for you to catch some big fish . Swanny I think you will have to show the old guy how to troll .

Bryan Hoffner
07-19-2007, 11:13 AM
Treerat, I think gary has had plenty of offers, he just gets busy like we all do.
I personally would be scared to be the one getting him going this year on trolling. Even though I haven't had the best of the best years I'm scared what Gary is going through might rub off on me.

Grizzly Gary
07-19-2007, 04:27 PM
I have one bad season and you kooks are all over me! Tis tru that trolling will become a focus once I get back on Kinzua. I have rods & reels rigged with leadcore just haven't used them. Not needed on Kinzua in my opinion but useful on Chautauqua.

I can't help it that I love to jig!

Bryan Hoffner
07-20-2007, 05:50 AM
Yes Gary I too LOVE to jig. Love it so much that when I'm not doing it I still have that rod in site and at times during these moments wonder if that jig I have tied up shouldn't be changed just in case I have to go to it in a quick pinch.

I wish jigging was always the answer. Except the facts that when we're trolling,

NO DIRT, NO DIRTY HANDS, NO DIRT IN THE BOAT, NO PICHED OFF PIECES OF CRAWLERS ALL OVER and have I mentioned that when the time is right, trolling I've seen alot of my bigger fish being produced, even on the zoo.

Well I guess it comes down to the fact I just love to be on the boat. Even if a fishing buddy of mine ended up with my free dinner.

Bill J
07-20-2007, 07:34 AM
NO DIRT, NO DIRTY HANDS, NO DIRT IN THE BOAT, NO PICHED OFF PIECES OF CRAWLERS ALL OVER

Gee Hoff ... never even thought about all those good reason's as to why I like trolling, but you are right.

Gary, as for your thoughts on that leadcore line on Kinzua. I was trolling the river channel on the reservation this week in 30' of water with mono and hung up. I guess I would have to agree with you then, that leadcore is not needed, the way I troll, at least to 30 feet.

Now dragging the bottom down at the trash boom where you like to fish may be a different story.

Grizzly Gary
08-06-2007, 05:29 PM
First a response to Hoff. I like dirty hands, dirt in the boat, smashed crawlers on the floor. That's part of the fun of eating a sandwich. Extra protein from the crawler guts!

I officially name Swanny as the winner of this contest. Unfortunately it is due to lack of 20 inch fish landed by me.

CONGRATULATIONS SWANNY!!!

When we going to dinner boys?

Bryan Hoffner
08-07-2007, 06:07 AM
Finally gave it up, Swanny enjoy dinner. I'm sure Mrs. Swanny will be along for the feast and I hope she too enjoys a fine meal.

Gary have you ever sprinkled that crawler dirt over your sandwich before eating.Yummmy, and the squashed crawlers, even more of a delite. In the fall and winter months, oh the taste of crushed crick bait over a ham sandwich. aahhh can't wait, tis the season soon

Grizzly Gary
08-09-2007, 04:49 AM
I also see the point. I was just thinking "The Last Man Standing" thing. This conversation should be moot anyway cause I am leaving shortly for a day on Erie with Capt. Wally & Capt. Wesley as we search for fish for this weekends tournament.

So I should be reeling in with a 20 incher today. I hope?

Thanks for making the announcement Treestandtimmy but you are a little high on the numbers.

At 9:27 am today I FINALLY reeled in a 30" 9.62 lb. Walleye. I have been sworn to secrecy as to the location & presentation as we are fishing the Erie Pa. Sportfishing Associations Tournament this weekend. www.epsfa.com

Capt. Wally & Capt. Wes (aka Capt. Bly & Capt. Hook) made me do all the work but did not let me fish until that time. Evil men they are!

Great day on Erie. We were only out 3 hours before a downpour moved in and we boated 9 Eyes and 3 Steelies.

So it is now official. Swanny is the winner! I have a pic of the fish with tongue out. Now if I could just learn how to get the damned thing from my digital camera to this site!!! :?:
