I would recommend a bag style target . These types of target will last just as long as any thing else . true easy to remove arrows . You can take a feed bag and stuff it full of plastic grocery bags or other feed bags for a home made target . For kids just make it fun maybe some balloons to pop or something .

Thats absolutly the way to go for the kids but if there is going to be alot of high poundage fast bows I would buy a commercial target.

I like The Block it really holds up to alot of shooting. When they get really good get them a Mckennzi (SP?) 3D and teach them about picking a spot and shot angle!

Them blocks aren't cheap. I have looked at them cause i am told they are good but like I said they are awful pricey. I like the 3-d type deer. Have had backyard Buck for quite a few years and all you do is replace the vitals now and again. He has about seen his day though.

Balloons for the kids is an excellent way to make shooting fun.

What? You mean you actully can hit the vitals    Oh I forgot those deer don't move
You can get the block cheaper during the off season when Gander or Erie Sports Store have them on sale.

what ever you do don't get a block 4x4 they are junk junk junk. I really like the bags hopefully treerat gets one soon because my 4x4 isn't even a year old and it is falling to pieces. $80 doesnt go very far in the world.

My kids hit 3D's no problem. They like the 3D's better than my block. I pick them up on clearance, at the rite time of year you can get some good deals. Now I have a few and a practice stand in the back yard. Fun, Fun, Fun.

Tip; bring the 3D's inside when your done shooting, they will last a lot longer.

3D deer target
set up the haybales for backing. and get different paper targets for the kids as well as balloons, and spot targets. Keep it fun. My 4 year old is happy as long as the arrow sticks in the target.

A lot of times you can go to local 3D shoots & buy up there old targets. We have a couple from that. Also another note, the IBO Worlds (in Ellicottville this year) sells off all their targets from the practice range (bags) & the targets from the courses. Can get SUPER cheap bargins!!!!

I too have a backyard buck. Shot alot of arrows into him and I need to replace the vitals, but it holds up very well.

Hey Grizz I can show you a neat trick I learned on giving that target a new life. It's easy and cheap. You can also use it as a decoy. Stop up and see me.
