I heard that Pa is now looking into new regulations for Bass and Walleye. They are proposing no size limits or creel limits for females of either species. and an 8lb size limit for males of both species. This will have no impact on the numbers of fish available but fisherman will have to fish harder and deeper than they are used to to be successful in the future. This is designed to help the meat fisherman as well as the trophy fisherman.

Most non-serious fisher people have trouble telling the difference between a pike and a muskie. Or a smallmouth bass from a largemouth. Or a walleye from a sauger. Now all they have to do is look if the fish has dingle berries or not! LOL!

Seriously though this is the first I heard about this one. I did a quick look at the proposed regs online and did not notice this. You can check out the proposed regs for PA here:

8lb size limit for males of both species.

I have caught hundred of both species and can tell you I couldn't tell you right now the difference between a male and female bass or walleye by looking at them other than during the spawn. I'm pretty sure the males of both species tend to be a heck of alot smaller than what has been posted here.
Looks like I'm going to do some research.

Male or Female?

Male or Female?

As you see trying to identify these 2 fish is a crapshoot.dont think the Pa. game commision would institute a law as was stated, unless its a money making thing.
LOL

You can see some subtle differences in the pictures but I'm quite sure 99.9% of walleye fishermen would have a hard time figuring the male or female of the species.I don't think these pictures are a good representation since there are so many variations to a individual walleye caused by where they live,ie; water clarity, water temp, etc.
Lets see your guesses.

Thinkin the guy may have been funnin or making a spoof at antler restrictions? You aint going to tell em apart, matter fact most 8# walleye are female.

Dave...the 2 walleye you pictured are males...Their mouths were closed! :sign5:

I think of all freshwater species that pike are the easiest to tell male from female. Mails are typically long and thin and females have guts. Bass and panfish are nearly impossible to tell.

You're right it's a joke. I originally disigned this as an april fool's joke but with all the talk about AR and HR I thought this would be a better time.
