From Linda @ The Causeway Sport Shop on Mosquito:

We Are Starting To Get A Nice Layer Of Ice . Oscar Said He Was Out Walking On It (carefully), And Checking It Out. He Said In Some Spots It Is 1 Inch +. And It Looks As Though It Is All The Way Across The Lake.
It's Only 18 Degrees So, Withing 2-3 Days It Should Be Fishable. I'll Try To Go Out And Get Some Pictures And Post Them ( If My Camera Works) See Ya In A Few Days!!!!!!! Linda

But Always Use Your Own Judgement-- And be Careful.

crossing over the Chautauqua Lake bridge this morning at 6:30 am as far as I could tell the lake is now covered with ice in that area. Will report later on what I see on my way home.

the nice thing about first ice on burtis bay is that nobody is afraid to fall through. It may be cold, but when you fall through just stand up and you'll be waist deep. 5" is what I need to venture out anywhere!

Chautauqua Lake in the area of the lake bridge is covered with ice as far as I could see both ways. Will let you know when I see fisherman out in front of the Casino.

Another angler called to tell me there is 4 inches of good clear ice at Burtis Bay. Have not walked out there myself so at this point I can not confirm that. Will try to stop over there tomorrow or Wednesday & see for myself. I still urge extreme caution!

Have heard reports of 3"-4" on Burtis but also know that 2 fellows went thru there on Wednesday-1 was in long enough that he spent the night in the hospital. Seen people out there the last few days but be careful and of course stick to the beaten path. :!:

Excellent advice happyhooker! Can you believe that the guy that went thru the ice one day went back out the next and went thru again!! Talk about determined and a little nuts!!!

This angler likes 4" of good clear ice before he ventures out on the hard water.

Don't forget to visit The Happy Hooker Bait & Tackle Shop in Ashville NY. as well as Hogans Hut at the end of the Chautauqua Bridge for everything you need for a day on the ice.

Another fella went thru at Burtis Thurs. and one today(Sat) so you won't be seeing me out there. I'm getting too old for that. I could tell I was getting old when I started having dry dreams and wet farts! :(

Dry dreams & wet farts!!! LOL!

Please all be very careful if you are heading out on the ice. As you see here we are all getting reports of folks going thru the ice. I know we are all chomping at the bit to get out there but aint no fish worth drowning over.

On my way to work today, as far as I could see in both directions on the bridge there was nobody fishing Chautauqua. Can't fish steelies anymore because of the ice, but not enough ice to ice fish............oh crap, is it spring turkey time yet?
