I love seeing these pics, I'm assuming it's a digital camera. And for the people like me that havn't invested in one yet, what do you recomend?

My camera is a home brew . I bought it from another guy from a diffrent forum a few years ago . Started having problems with it this summer . So I repaired it my self bought a new sensor board for it and done the work my self . The camera itself is a Sony p41. ...
4 mega pix . . approximate cost to build your own is $200 . and you can use the camera by itself when not in the game cam .

Yeah last Sunday nite about midnight thirty Ma called me over to "chase" a goodly sized black bear outta her yard. Turns out it was TWO bears, a Mamma and a "cub".......it was a vewy, vewy interesting experience.

Andover huh? Ever run into a feller out that way that goes by the name of Denny Shay? He's a well know local out that way.......heck of a gunsmith.

I'm game for shootin' anytime......................................

Do you just set the cam up on a trail, or do you put out some attractant too? With my luck I'll get one and get pictures of a bunch of Amish!

treerat
08-30-2006, 08:34 AM
Yes I sit the camera on trails . Some people bait the area in front of their cameras .I dont like to do that . I want to catch deer in their natural movements .I have used curiosity scent a few years ago . it works ok . I have not got an amish yet . and yes theres alot around . Treestand timmy .I have an older 35mm trail cam laying around I would sell you cheap if your interrested .

treestandtimmy
08-30-2006, 11:30 AM
Thanks for the offer, but I think i am going to get a digital. I like instant gratification. Unless somehow I can convert the 35mm one you have and I can put one of my regular digital cameras in the case? but that sounds like too much work, probably better off just pulling the trigger on a new one.

treerat
08-31-2006, 08:53 AM
Yes thats why the 35mm is just sitting around .Digital is the way to go . What kind of digital camera do you have ? Most home brew trail cams use sonys or Olympus .
All I got on my cam this week were doe pics .

I have a Kodak easyshare, but how does the motion sensor work?

treerat
09-01-2006, 08:17 AM
It works on the same way motion lights works . It senses heat and motion . then it turns the camera on and then a few seconds shutters the camera .. Then depending on the control board((sensor) settings . will either wait to take another aproximately 5-10 nseconds upto 1minute . depends on how you set it up . . I am not a real expert on this stuff . You can learn alot more from the "Experts" on this link . go to Home made trail cameras section .

I'm brand new at this- a buddy loaned me his xtra cam, it's a StealthCam, it does OK, we've got some pretty good pics so far, but they look a bit "fuzzy", I see these posted here from digital are real clear, and since the prices on them are coming down, maybe Santa might bring me one. It almost seems like "lazy hunting"!!! I enjoyed scouting the right area to set it up and then to see waht's coming in- this is a whole new hobby!!

treerat
09-22-2006, 08:16 AM
Its private ground in northern Potter county . Agricultural area near corn fields .Yes commercial cams prices are coming down . I would still recomend one of the home made ones . check the links earlier in this post . .Fisher mom yes theres another deer in that picture . I put a stand in that area yesterday . The deer are coming through at 8:30am and 4:30pm . And the freezer is pretty empty :D Come on sept 30th

You outa see the photo's of the buck I saw today. My insurance guy has them on his computer. This buck was photographed on the next street over from my house. I will get them to send them to me so I can post it. He is huge and living in Jamestown. At least a 20 inch inside. His tines must be at least 11 inch on the longest ones. I can count 6 on one side. --------- rattrapper

A guy I work with was telling me about a huge buck that was seen behind persell middle school in j-town. He said it was a monster, and I believe it, I've seen a giant buck a few times creeping around bergman park which is right in the same area.Always early in the morning when I'm on my way hunting(of course).

Do you know what they did with the mount? I hope whoever saw it saved the rack at least. Unless someone started a rumor that it got smoked by a car so they can go in after it with a bow and have everyone believe he's dead.
