On my way home, just had to take a trip to Marilla Res. Only about 10 miles from Willow Bay. It was 70% skinned over. Funny thing, there were pock holes in the ice, just like someone drilled them, almost exactly where I last drilled holes there. It was freaky really. By morning, this will be frozen edge to edge with this wind and low temps. I'll test it tomorrow.
All I know is, I have a new boat coming next Friday and it looks like I am going to have to load it with ice fishing gear and use it for a sled. Timing couldn't be better.
Algy Rvr at Turtlepoint was nearly frozen yesterday. Edges were all hard and lots of ice islands. Surface was just oozing frozen slush. It would have been like paddling in a snow cone. I would not be surprised it was frozen edge to edge some places.

Zen, does the new boat have the same size engine as the last one?
Just got a report from a friend that said Willow Bay shows NO sign of ice yet.
I have been working on that engine. Still got 3 more months to tune up. Put an 1-1/4 inch on the arms, 1.5 on the chest, back is starting to show lumpy spots where someday a muscle might emerge, stomach blob is showing signs of underlying structure, weight down to 209. Soon as ice is out, I am going to be kicking kayak azz. Probably run it this Saturday 12/19 below the dam.
Boat I got is a Pyranha Speeder. Based on the ICF Wildwater Downriver racing specification.
Looking forward to the ice but I never really do very well. Its nice to get out though and pull a few throuigh the ice..I like it up the Zoo when its dead azz quiet..Very relaxing..
I love the ZOO when it is singing. First time I ever went ice fishing, friend took me to the ZOO with 4 inches of ice. I don't know if they were raising or lowering the water that day or if the ice was melting or building, but holy cow. I never heard so much noise in my life. Big old ZZZHHHOOOOK OOOK OOOK sounds and roaring ripping sounds and sometimes it sounded like you were in a giant steel tank and someone was dragging chains across the outside. It would just shake you up and down. I was scared witless. They were all laughing at me. I was laying on the ice I was so scared. I have grown accustomed to the ice song now and I get to laugh at the fresh meat. I have actually seen men weeping they were so scared out there.
i love the music the ice makes. its a tune that is unexplainable and unmatched!! no matter how much time i spend on the ice however i never get used to the ice making that LOUD cracking noise right between your two feet just as or just after you have punched holes. that scares the crap out of me every time!!!
