Took The Boy with me to work yesterday, thinkin' he didnt' mind it at all.........

Was told that this pond was FULL of Catfish, big ones. Come to find out it was full of Catfish, big ones....two years ago. The Boy soaked chicken livers in that pond just about all day long, covered every square inch of it, and came up empty.

Either they all died off, or someone snuck in there and fished 'em all out. Thinking though that spending a whole day on the water and doing nothing that resembled chores didn't bother him at all either.

He's not too hard to please................

Didn't get a chance, before, to regale the remainder of my Turkey Season, and I'd hate for anyone here to think I was a "One Bird" Spring Gobbler Hunter.........grins.

The day before Closing Day I whacked a Jake, nuthin' special, but a good eating bird. He simply had to die that day because I had just missed the Big Tom I was after. Yeah, you heard me say it, I missed a shot, 100 yards. I guess attempting a head shot has it's downfalls too (grins). The Jake wouldn't leave with the rest of the gang after I missed the Tom so I immediately redeemed myself with a head shot on him...at 220 yards (lrf).

The next day, Closing Day, my boy and I snuck in there on that Big Tom and put ourselves on the OTHER side of the playing field...where he was always coming out with the hens after fly down. The Boy had his .22 Henry with him and I was hoping hard that we could get the ol' bird within 65 yards of us or less so he could get a clean head shot.

No dice, this bird was henned up worse that my first one was with about a dozen ladies and no matter how much sweet talk I gave him on my favorite Special Super Secret Slate call, and no matter how much gobblin' he did in return he came out in the field below us...opposite of what he had been doing all along.

Go figure..............

So the way The Boy and I were set up in the tree line, with the turkey at about 90 yards out in front of us, there was no way I could hand off the .243AI to him to take a shot. We'd have gotten busted if we moved even a twitch. I whispered to the boy that the only way for us to take this bird home today, last day, was for me to shoot him now. He said he was cool with that.......do it. Bird faced me in full strut, I pasted crosshairs on the base of his neck, and touched it off. The feathers missing out of his fan are the result of the bullet exiting just north of the south end. Breast meat, both wings, thighs, and legs all intact.

Not a terribly horrid way to end the Season................

I respect your point, but I don't think they should get out until the stream recovers to it predisaster life sustaining levels. If there were crayfish there and minnows and natives, then when we see that again, we can let them out and start letting them earn the money to pay for restoration. Along with making them work of restoration projects, that is good karma. And so if it takes twenty years to recover then fine by me, they can sit and wait.

But then we are excusing it at a company level when it happens as part of operations, so maybe my passion is pushing my thinkitudner one sided like.

Hey guys, Any ideas on fishing Chautauqua Lake after 10pm from a boat? Besides hitting weedlines for 'eyes, do bass normally bite that late? I fish Chautauqua all the time but never fooled around out there at night.
On a side note, I'm glad I found this site. Very informative and surprisingly polite for an internet forum. Thanks.

Obama was looking for a call girl

Barack Hussein Obama was looking for a call girl. He found three such
girls in a local pub, a blonde, a brunette and a redhead.

To the blonde he said, 'I am the President of the United States.
Now how much would it cost me to spend some time with you?'

She replied, $200.'

To the brunette he asked the same question..

Her reply was $100.

He then asked the redhead

Her reply was, 'Mr. President, if you can get my skirt up as high as my taxes, my pants as low as my wages, get that thing of yours as hard as the times we are living in, and keep it rising like the price of gas, keep me warmer than it is in my apartment and screw me the way you have retirees, then it isn't going to cost you a damn cent!'

RE: silver bass: good eating or no?? whats your take?

White Perch & White Bass are 2 completely different species.

White Perch are about 8-10 inches long on average and look like regular Perch body wise except the color is different. They have indeed invaded Chautauqua Lake. I have eaten them and they are good eating when crumb coated and deep fried.

White Bass are plentiful in Kinzua and are also tasty table fare. They look more like a huge silverish crappie. Excellent fighters. As to the fishy taste I have never experienced it myself. Again they taste like many pan fish.

Yes they have that red blood line running through them that if you soak them in salt water takes the blood out of them. Can't says either that I have experienced a strong fishy taste after freezing them?

Drives me nuts when folks ask if the fish I am preparing or suggesting taste fishy???

IT"S FISH!! FISH TASTE LIKE FISH!!!

Stupid is as stupid does.

I am not a big fan of jail time for crimes such as this. I am more in favor of jjsjigs idea that such folks should spend years working on habitat type projects as well as have their fishing & hunting rights revoked and pay monetarily for their damage. Garnish their wages for 10 years to pay for the damage they have done.

Sitting in jail does nothing but cost the taxpayer money. They have already cost us enough. 6 months yes. 2-10 years? I say no.

Make them work & pay with the sweat of their brow. Make them wash every rock on Chappel Run for the next 10 years. Make them do community service for 10 years.

My 2 cents.
