Default CHAUTAUQUA LAKE ICE BLUEGILLS, CRAPPIE AND PERCH

This cold weather looks like excellent ice making weather! Can't wait to fillet up a big batch of gills. YUM! I am hoping we have ice for New Years!

The lake has some GREAT Panfish fishing. Often overlooked for the eyes, muskies and of ocurse Uncle Randy's Pets (Bass)!

Good luck to all that venture on teh Ice this year. Be safe.

The lower lake is frozen over but not sure about the upper end near Mayville. Not much snow on the ice so with these cold days, it must be making ice. I may be selling my ice gear...anyone looking for a fish trap clam style hut with cover, 8in auger, rods, lures, gaff, skimming ladel? Randy

So...with the lower half frozen, when will it be safe for an excursion? Any chance anyone would be out before December 29??? I leave for Denver that day.

I saw 3 huts out of the Lakewood launch into Burtis bay. They were out quite aways...but you know how crazy some guys are...could only be 2 inches of ice. Randy PS as far me selling my ice gear, I am going to hold onto it all, sorry.

Willing to bet the ice isn't going to be around as long as planned with this weather.

Have spoken to a bunch of folks who were lucky enough to get on the Chautauqua Lake ice last week before the rain. Lots of fat hand sized gills at Burtis Bay. I missed it!

I am still getting reports of good sized Perch & Gills being caught at Burtis Bay.

Always remember to be safe rather than sorry when ice fishing!

there are some nice fish being taken my friends get to go out more than me and have gotten 2 perch over 11" one just shy of 13 and looks more like it was caught in Erie than chat. I have caught a few 9"+ gills and plenty about 8" . As a matter of fact that is dinner tonight.

Fished Burtis with HDE on Saturday. Got lots of Perch but most were dinks. We kept 7.

When I got home my neighbor called and said they crushed the gills and they were about 20 yards away from us.

I have heard many reports of good gills and Perch being taken at Burtis. I hope to get out again this week.

Pulled a ton of Perch out of Mayville yesterday but 99% were to small. Got a sudden flurry of nice Gills at about 5:30 and lasted till 6. Put 14 nice ones on the ice in 1/2 hour.

Here is one of the Perch Tage caught today. We ended up with about 20 of 'em this big or bigger and about 10 of 'em a little smaller.
