Sorry, meant to answer your post sooner, just got crazy busy.
I dont run side scan but have heard very good reports from people in the know.
Several things have kept me from trying one...
1. learning curve. Everyone has told me it has been pretty tough really intrepreting what you are seeing. Some guys have kept the old style unit on their boats so they had the option of looking off the conventional screne. If you get the bigger screen you can split the screen for both views.
2. Split screens... I now run Lowrance 111, a 10.4" screen. Half of that is gps so for me to get both views I would need another unit...sonar or stand alone gps. If you don't get one of the higher $ large screens you will not get much of a picture with a split.

thanks for the reply gilligan ,,, think ill wait it out till i see 1 in action for myself.... im more interested in seeing whats down there on the bottom than catchin fish... lol .
